10 straight wins for souring 73's
The Essex 73's are rolling along after an opening season loss to Wheatley back on Sept 9th. Since then, the orange and black have picked up 10-straight wins after a 2-1 home win Tuesday night over the Blenheim Blades and sit in first place overall in the Stobbs Division.
Essex played well in this game and out shot the visitors, 42-19. Blades' goaltender, Russell Vaughan, played exceptionally well to help a hard-working Blades team stay in the game right to the final buzzer.
Marcus Levesque got the 73's going early in the first period with his first of the season, but at the 10:59 mark of the same period, Blenheim would tie the game on the powerplay as Casey Tellier managed to poke in a loose puck in a mad, goal-mouth scramble.
There was no scoring in the second frame, in spite of Essex out shooting the Blades, 15-4.
In the third period, captain Adrian Bosev made a slick move while approaching the Blades zone and snapped a shot cross ice past Vaughan to give the 73's a 2-1 lead, a lead that would hold up to be the game winner.
Jake Vancoillie got the nod in goal against his former team and played well.
Essex is off until next Tuesday when they host the second-place Lakeshore Canadiens.
